Research at the Nexus of Science, Engineering, Art, and Design: Forging a Pathway from Imagination to Innovation
In its first 5 years, the Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) has launched over 50 research projects that bring together trans-disciplinary teams of faculty and students. The outputs of these projects include scientific innovation, artistic expression, and new design and engineering solutions. ICAT has taken an iterative approach of self-reflection and constant assessment of its impact on its constituent fields and stakeholders. This approach has led to new research and educational initiatives including informal learning programs such as maker camps and innovation festivals as well as supporting two new majors in Creative Technologies and Experiences and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This talk will discuss several ICAT projects in order to launch a conversation of the successes and challenges at the frontier of creativity, arts, and technology.
